District and town councillors have begun a different type of campaign as they’ve been hitting the streets of Whitehill & Bordon in a battle against litterbugs and fly-tippers.

Councillors Linda Delve and Adeel Shah decided to get their hands dirty on Station Road this morning after receiving several messages about litter and fly-tipping around the town.

“East Hampshire District Council does take fly-tipping seriously,” said Cllr Shah in urging residents not to litter.

“It’s a criminal offence, and there are fines and enforcement action in place. The council investigates incidents, works with partners, and even offers rewards for information to help catch those responsible.

He added: “Cllr Andy Tree and I sit in the cabinet of EHDC and we’ve been pushing for this to happen for the sake of keeping our town clean.

“This isn’t how we should be treating the place we all call home, so please, please take your litter with you or use a nearby bin.”

The action to crackdown on litter picking follows on from New Year’s Day, when residents of all walk of life joined the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s annual litter pick at 6am.

More than 50 people joined this year, and together more than 50 bags of litter were collected. Not only was it an event which many members enjoyed it also brought a wide range of people in the community together.

For Cllr Delve the clean up is part of a growing campaign to keep Whitehill and Bordon green and environmentally friendly. Linda’s work on climate awareness to both the council and outside bodies has helped push Bordon to becoming more sustainable.
