WITH 4,000 eco homes planned for Bordon, East Hampshire District Council is working out a traffic system to cope with the volume of vehicles the development will bring, including the possibility of drivers using Oak-hanger village as a rat run to escape the jams.

The warning about Oakhanger came from Tim Wall, the district council's theme lead for transport, when he gave a recent presentation to Whitehill Town Council about the traffic assessment being undertaken to plot traffic movements in the town for the next 20 years.

At present, he said, the district council was looking at three options of reducing the volume of traffic in the town - either by 75 per cent, 50 per cent or 20 per cent when the eco town is built.

This would be achieved by providing better facilities for walking and cycling and encouraging car sharing.
