WORK to tear down Whitehill police station has got under way.
Last year planning permission was granted for the demolition of the building, set to be replaced with 10 homes. This followed the controversial closure and sale of the station as part of Hampshire Constabulary’s estate change strategy to generate funds by selling off property.
While there was resistance to the loss of the police station, once that axe fell the proposal to develop the land with homes was met relatively favourably.
Whitehill Town Council supported the application as it would bring “new life” to the site.
