WHITEHILL town councillors this week opposed austerity measures which they fear could see bus service cuts as Hampshire County Council take steps to save millions by overhauling its subsidy budgets.
Against a backdrop of having to save £100m by March 2015, the county council carried out consultations earlier this year to establish residents' views on subsidies for public transport.
Now, in a bid to reduce the current spend of £4.7m on supporting bus services that are not commercially viable for private operators to run, the county council intends to re tender services.
