THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning with more thick fog expected to descend on Surrey and Hampshire overnight.

Visibility could be reduced to as little as 50 metres as a result of the fog, which is expected to form on Monday evening and last until mid-morning on Tuesday.

Forecasters are urging the public to be aware of the risk of disruption to transport.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: "With largely clear skies and light winds patchy fog will soon begin to form on Monday evening and become widespread overnight into Tuesday morning with visibility down to 50m to 100m in places.

"The fog will progressively clear from the north early on Tuesday although some patches may persist well into the morning in the extreme south.”
