STEP back in time at Fernhurst Furnace this weekend and explore the home of an important ironworks that manufactured canons during two Heritage Open Days.

To get in the mood, members of Sealed Knot re-enactment group will be staging demonstrations, including a skirmish complete with musket fire on Saturday, September 15, and Sunday, September 16.

The open weekend fun also includes guided tours, falconry displays, target archery, den building and folk singers.

The remains of Fernhurst Furnace are some of the best preserved in the Sussex Weald. The iron industry flourished at the furnace ponds in the 17th and 18th centuries using local ore, charcoal and water power. The site open from 10.30am-5pm.
