A DEFIBRILLATOR is set to be installed at an infant school in Bordon thanks to the efforts of three learning support assistants (LSA).
Olivia Wong, Year R LSA, Claire Lockyer, Year 1 LSA, and Jenny Ibbs, Year 2 LSA, joined forces ahead of this year’s Great South Run to raise a target of £1,500 and purchase a defbrillator at Bordon Infant School.
And in just three weeks the team managed to smash their total, raising a huge £1,521.
They took on the ten-mile challenge on Sunday, October 20, and all finished within two hours, with Claire crossing the finish line in one hour 29 minutes, Olivia finishing in one hour 46 minutes and Jenny in one hour 50 minutes.
Jenny said: “We had a first aid course towards the end of term last year and they were talking about a defibrillator and how expensive that was and how much it would save children’s lives if we had one in school.
“We came up with the idea of doing the race and trying to raise the money to buy one.”
Claire added: “It’s quite nice we’ve got one person from each year group as well, so it worked well to cover the whole school.”
Each said they would encourage others to take part in the run, with Jenny and Olivia already looking to do it again next year.
They went on to thank everyone who donated, with Jenny adding: “Everybody has been really generous!”
And while Claire hopes the school will never have to use it, the hope is to have the defibrillator installed by the end of November.
Headteacher Matt Greenhalgh said he was “very proud of them”, adding: “They have done an absolutely amazing job. I thought we would have to fundraise for a full year, but the amount raised and the generosity of parents is really quite humbling.”
