Love Haslemere Hate Waste has been busy this month with the hotly anticipated launch of the Library of Things.

The Library of Things works like a regular library, except you can borrow tools and DIY items instead of books.

On Friday, October 6, the Library of Things launched in Haslemere Library with cupcakes for visitors and leaflets with information on how to book items. The team was excited to see whether the carefully curated items would generate interest, bets were made, and they watched and waited to see which item would be booked first. The combi-drill was the winning tool!

Since then, we have lent several items including the sewing machine and our hedge trimmer. So far, the feedback is very positive. The concept has also generated great interest with library patrons and passers-by who have seen the window posters and online ads.

The Library of Things is an all-round success, and over time it will offer a wider array of useful things to hire and cater to seasonal demand: fake Christmas tree and Christmas lights anyone?
