An East Hampshire man has been charged with strangling a walker by police investigating a string of assaults at a beauty spot between Oakhanger and The Worldhams.

Scott Davis was arrested last Thursday, April 25, following an investigation into several incidents around Binswood in March and April.

The police received two reports in March that a man has assaulted two people who were using a public footpath in the largely wooded area.

They also received multiple reports of a man causing a “public nuisance” in the same area between March 2 and April 14, leading to a joint investigation.

The 40-year-old of Binswood was charged with assault, causing a public nuisance and intentional strangulation after being arrested in a swoop involving numerous officers and Chief Inspector Habib Rahman.

Mr Davis has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on May 28.
