HE has already repaid the £767.75 he claimed on expenses to clean his swimming pool and now North East Hampshire MP James Arbuthnot has paid back the £4,595 the Conservative Scrutiny Panel recommended for second-home claims and an extra £4,743 as a goodwill gesture.

But he stressed in a statement this week: "I didn't have to do it - I didn't do anything wrong as what I charged for was in the rules."
