The visit by Chief Inspector Matt Moss , as well as Inspector Matt Wake, was organised by Whitehill Town Council leader Cllr Andy Tree.
The Forest Shopping Centre has faced a number of incidents in recent months, including vandalism and shoplifting.
An increased police presence, however, is reported to be improving confidence among shoppers and businesses.
Whitehill & Bordon’s police sergeant reports directly to Inspector Wake, and the walkabout gave him the opportunity to hear local concerns.
Shopkeepers had previously raised shoplifting as a significant issue.
Inspector Wake confirmed tackling theft from shops is a priority and said a plan is in place to deal with repeat offenders.
Cllr Tree said he walked with the police from the Forest Shopping Centre, up Chalet Hill, into the Shed and back through the High Street.
“We went into shops along the way and spoke to a range of people to get feedback and note any concerns,” he said.
“I was reassured to hear from shopkeepers that police patrols around the Forest Shopping Centre have been making a real difference. This is very positive and I hope it continues.”
Chief Inspector Moss, who leads the East Hampshire district, said: “What is clear to me is that we must continue to build community confidence in us.
“I am extremely proud of the work my teams do every day to deliver an effective local policing service, and I share the frustration at the factors outside our control that can affect it.
“We will keep going out, remain as visible as possible, and above all continue working hard to stay closely connected with the people of Bordon.”
