FOR more than two months neither motorists nor residents have been able to see what is happening along the closed section of the A325, at the northern end of Bordon, as traffic has been diverted for the building of the relief road.

But a photograph, submitted to the Bordon Herald by Michael Bacon of Fitzroy Malin, shows the work is nearly completed.

Now in place is a roundabout at the northern end of the new bypass at Louisburg Barracks, which is being demolished as new houses are built.

This also signals the end of the first phase of the bypass, which will go through the Ministry of Defence area to the west of the town and reconnect with the A325 at the Petersfield Road, Liphook Road and Firgrove Road junction in Whitehill.

Work started on the new road in September last year and the northern section of the A325 has been closed since June for work to be completed on the first phase. The bypass is being built to take away traffic from the A325 in the town centre, especially in the morning and evening rush hours.

Clearing for phase two, in the south, has already begun, with the loss of large stretches of woodland that used to line Petersfield and Liphook roads by the Whitehill roundabout.

This work has also exposed part of the old railway line.
