The candidates standing in the general election on Thursday, December 12, have been announced.

In East Hampshire the candidates are: Gaynor Austin (Labour Party), David Buxton (Liberal Democrat), Damian Hinds (Conservative), Jim Makin (UK Independence Party), Zoe Parker (Green) and Eddie Trotter (The Justice & Anti-Corruption Party).

In the Meon Valley constituency: Matthew Bunday (Labour), Flick Drummond (Conservative), Lewis North (Lib Dem) and Malcolm Wallace (Green).

In Winchester: George Baker (Labour), Steve Brine (Conservative), Paula Ferguson (Lib Dem) and Teresa Skelton (The Justice & Anti-Corruption Party).

Candidates jostled in the final days ahead of the deadline, with Brexit Party members standing down last week following orders from leader Nigel Farage. Another late change came from former Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery.

“I have decided I will not be standing as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the Meon Valley at the forthcoming general election,” he said. “The last nine years as the MP for such a wonderful constituency have been a tremendous privilege, but it’s time to seek new challenges outside Westminster.

“I was readopted as the candidate back in September, but things have moved on a great deal since then. When the general election was called at such short notice, I sat down and talked things through with my family and friends and decided it was time to move on.”
