The service, at 2pm on Sunday, July 3, will honour 2nd Lieutenant Tom Adlam, of the 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for valour at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
At Thiepval, in France, Mr Adlam, despite being wounded and coming under heavy fire, led his men to capture a village and kill the enemy.
After this he settled down and lived in Blackmoor for more than 50 years, serving as headmaster of St Matthew’s Primary School.
