FOR Whitehill wire sculptor Roger Russell it is the combination of his artistic and technical skills that make his work unique.

Roger, who is also a town councillor, turned his hand to making copper-wire sculptures in the winter, when his usual work as a gardener had dwindled during the cold season.

Challenged in November by a friend to create a wire fairy - like those made by another, established British sculptor - the father of one rose to the occasion.

“I thought ‘not only can I make one, but I can do it better’,” Roger recalled. “And I got a bit carried away.”
