THE School Games National Finals took place at Loughborough University between Thursday, August 30 and Sunday, September 2, with Headley Down’s Luke van Oudtshoorn (pictured) contesting the triathlon competition.

The 16-year-old St Edmund’s School (Hindhead) pupil was part of the England South East team and performed well, finishing sixth individually.

Luke flew across the finish line in first place in the aquathlon event, which made up the first leg of the three-day triathlon competition; a tough day of cycling took a slight toll on his position though, seeing Luke finish sixth. He put in a solid performance in the mixed-relay event the following day, as England South East crossed the line in silver-medal position.

“My season has been up and down because I came off my bike a few months ago, so I couldn’t run for a while,” he said. “So, to come out today and run solidly has made me really happy. My strongest event is definitely the run.

“In the future, I hope to go to the Olympics.”
