EAST Hampshire residents are being encouraged to have their say on how waste and recycling, street cleaning, grounds maintenance and public toilets should be managed by contributing to a consultation that will run until July 14.

The current joint environmental service contract, provided by Biffa and Idverde on behalf of East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) and Winchester City Council, will expire in October 2019 and the councils are keen to hear residents’ views on the different options.

The two councils are committed to working together on any future contract and can choose to deliver the services in a variety of ways, with each having their own opportunities and challenges.

There is a document setting out the strengths and potential weaknesses of the four options available. Once residents have considered the options, a response can be completed online.

Paper copies of the consultation document are available from the EHDC and Winchester City Council offices.

Public responses will be taken into account before a final decision is made.

Richard Millard, the leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: “Our waste contract is one of the most important contracts that the district council has.

“By working with Winchester City Council, we have secured significant savings for both councils from the existing contract and aim to supply the best possible value for money and excellent service for our taxpayers.”
