BIRDWORLD has celebrated Love Your Zoo Week..

Throughout half term and for Love Your Zoo Week - a national initiative run by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums to raise awareness of the zoos in the UK - the Birdworld keepers carried out additional talks, feeding sessions and activities with birds and other animals around the park in Holt Pound.

These included a talk about the current “zoo babies” at Birdworld and a popular session about the park’s flamboyant flamingos, who laid eggs at the park for the first time this year.

The keepers also carried out their regular daily talks and shows, such as penguin and pelican feeding and Birdworld’s famous outdoor flying display.

Throughout the week, visitors watched live sheep-shearing sessions at Birdworld’s Jenny Wren Farm and took part in feeding sessions with the farm keepers.

The art-and-craft tent was full of youngsters creating heart-themed craft projects to take home and display.

Artist in residence, Jemma Wyllie, visited during the week to help visitors to paint birds to display as part of a new project to support Birdworld’s conservation fund, which aims to aid important conservation projects nationally and worldwide.

Mark Anderson, Birdworld’s general manager, said: “We were very excited to host another fantastic Love Your Zoo Week this year at Birdworld.

“Our keepers had a great time hosting a multitude of fascinating talks and activities for our visitors to enjoy.

“Everyone had lots of fun and we now can’t wait for our summer programme of activities to begin.”
