A VOLUNTEER has been presented with an award to mark 22 years of service with the Royal Voluntary Services (RVS).

Derick Price, who will turn 98 this year, is a former RAF pilot who served during the Second World War.

On Thursday, Sarah-Jane Walsh, area operations manager, presented Derick with his award.

However, there was a surprise in store not only for Derick, but for all the volunteers and members of the Whitehill RVS Luncheon Club, as Derick also earned a medal commissioned by the Queen.

The ‘Service Beyond Self’ medal was originally struck by the Royal Mint and is awarded in recognition of 15 years of service.

Carol Anne Dann, branch co-ordinator of the Whitehill club, said: “We as a club are extremely proud and delighted for Derick to receive this wonderful award.

“A moment to be treasured.”
