FARNCOMBE made it eight wins in 10 matches as they beat Wood Street by eight wickets.
The I’Anson Division Three leaders chose to bowl first, but found Wood Street’s 10 men to be no pushover as Liam Binfield (47) and James Grist (41) put on 84 for the second wicket. However, the bowlers kept plugging away and after a breezy 32 from Tom Grist, Wood Street were dismissed for 154 in 36 overs.
Wood Street had their tails up as James and Tom Grist removed Farncombe’s openers for ducks. But that was as far as the visitors got. Wes Pusey (77 not out) and Richard Baker (69 not out) put the change- bowlers to the sword and Farncombe knock off the runs in 23 overs.
Headley II and Hindhead played out an uninspiring draw that helped neither side in the relegation scrap. Hindhead’s 205 all out in 48 overs left the hosts a difficult chase on an unpredictable pitch and they finished over 60 runs short, with six wickets down.
Headley did what many struggling teams do – failed to take their catches as Hindhead posted a decent total. Crucially, they dropped Ali McGregor who hit 46, including two sixes. Mike Hughes kept things tight at one end and finished with 5-44 off 14 overs.
Richard Jackson (44) and Bill Ray batted nicely for Headley, but Stuart Woods, getting lift with his off-spin, proved difficult to get away and the visitors fell well behind the run-rate. Two quick wickets for Harry Stokes had Headley worried, but it came too late and Ben Lucas and Algie Trotman played out time for a comfortable draw.
Harting may not have been too impressed when their captain chose to bowl first on a hot afternoon, but it proved a good decision. Shalford struggled as the visitors took advantage of some variable bounce and were bowled out for 164. Adam White and David Gregory made 30 and 34 respectively, while Archie Wadey (4-21) and Graham Nutting (4-19)?bowled particularly well.
The wicket had eased when Harting replied and a fine opening stand between Rob Norris (65) and Ollie Simpson (43) virtually ensured victory. Four wickets by young leg-spinner Isaac Watson caused a hiccup before Harting got home in the 28th over.
Blackheath II faltered after a good start by openers Ian Nolan and Ronny Harrison, but the tailed wagged with a vengeance (Anthony Coombes 33, Ed Allen (27) and the home team reached 202 in the 48th over. Matt Duncan and Adam Hendries were the pick of The Bourne’s bowlers.
Joe Morse hit a rapid 38 as Bourne raced to 100-2. But the challenge fell away when Ed Allen (4-44) trapped Rob Croucher for 51 and the visitors lost their last eight wickets for 43 runs.
