FRENSHAM and Rowledge will renew their Village Cup rivalry in the Surrey Group final on June 10 after winning their third-round matches last Sunday.
Blackheath missed a good chance to end their losing cup run against Rowledge. The Southern Premier League side elected to bat and lost skipper David Lloyd cheaply to Danny Harrison.
Max Martin (15) and Sam Moseley saw off the new ball and then Moseley and Sam Marshall (44) took the visitors to 124-2 after 25 overs.
The aggressive Moseley, with a fine 74, and U17 players Ollie Baker (27) and Will Ryman (28) increased the run-rate and Rowledge totalled a healthy 214-7.
Will Melhuish was caught behind off Tim Wheatley’s first ball and, at 28-3, Blackheath were teetering. However, an excellent stand of 88 between Peter Melhuish and Ronny Harrison turned the game into a tight contest.
Harrison (47) was out at just the wrong time and then Melhuish (77) was caught in the deep by Wheatley off Lloyd.
The big-hitting Danny Harrison (23) kept the I’Anson side in the game, but their challenge faltered with a couple of run-outs and Blackheath ended on 205-9, 10 runs short of victory.
Frensham beat Oakwood Hill in a high-scoring game at Hollowdene.
Put in by the visitors, Frensham owed their 200-plus total to opener Charlie Robertson, who hit a nice 58, and number 4 Sam Farncombe who clubbed an aggressive 71. Adam Goulder (24) and Ben Maxwell (17) gave good support and Frensham finished on 225-8 from their 40 overs.
Oakwood’s run-chase was led by opener Mark Cobby who made a fluent 86 before falling to Hally Baldock. Goulder (4-30) and Farncombe (3-29) chipped away at the batting and Oakwood, despite a good 38 from Owen Bartlett, fell well short on 186 all out in the 34th over.
Liphook & Ripsley will host either Tichborne Park or Easton & Martyr Worthy in the Hampshire Group final after winning by three wickets at Bramshaw.
Liphook had the experienced trio of Harry Munt, Ryan Covey and Dave Elliott to thank for victory on a drying track.
Brendan Streather was the backbone of the the Foresters’ innings with an authoritative 61 out of 185, but, crucially, 3.4 overs were left unused. Spinner Elliott bowled Streather and then checked Bramshaw’s middle order with 4-47.
Ryan Covey and Munt, who had already taken two wickets apiece, dominated Liphook’s reply. Covey hit 51 off 46 balls and Munt finished 72 not out as wickets tumbled at the other end.
