Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith praised his side’s patience after they won 3-0 at Binfield in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday afternoon.
The Baggies had to wait until the 80th minute to break the deadlock through Adam New’s header.
Nick Medcraft scored the second from close range after some good footwork from Kai Allsopp in the 88th minute, and Lamin Ceesay rounded things off with an impressive strike in stoppage time to make it 3-0.
“We had to stay patient – and credit to the lads because they did,” said Smith. “They did all the right things.
“It was one of those days where if we had scored early it could have been anything.
“Binfield sat off us and were happy for us to have the ball.
“At half-time we said to keep going. I didn’t see Binfield changing their approach while it was still 0-0.
“We hit the post but we kept going and got the goal – and ended up getting three in the last ten minutes.
“Once we got the first goal we looked so confident.”
Saturday’s win followed an impressive 3-0 win at Northwood last Tuesday night (October 24) in the third round of the Velocity Cup.
Anuar Ceesay helped himself to a hat-trick to seal the Baggies’ place in the next round in convincing style.
Smith had made a number of changes for the cup tie, but was delighted to see his side progress and heaped praise on the Baggies’ hat-trick hero.
“We made five or six changes for the game but everyone who came in took their chance,” said Smith.
“It was important to give people minutes who needed minutes – we’ve got good options in the squad.
“Anuar was a threat from start to finish. He was very raw when he joined us but he’s taken on board what we’ve said to him and has listened to Vic Ocansey.
The Baggies travel to Hanworth Villa in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday (3pm), before hosting Ashford Town next Tuesday night (November 7).
