It’s not just the Badshot Lea men’s side who are enjoying a storming league season – the ladies’ team aren’t doing too badly either.

The Baggy Girls sit proudly on top of the Southern Region Division One (South) table, having lost only one of their eight league games.

They have had a meteoric rise. In the 2021/22 season – the same year England’s women’s team became European champions – Badshot Lea won the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Premier Division title and the Challenge Cup – an amazing double.

The league success earned them promotion to the Southern Region League – Step 6 of the English pyramid.

On top of their league success this season, the Baggy Girls have also enjoyed a three-match winning run in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup – the same competition in which Women’s Super League teams such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City compete in later rounds.

Co-manager Jamie Norris has been delighted with the girls’ success. “They are a great group and work hard for each other,” he said.

Fellow co-manager Trevor Norris said: “Having won promotion last term, we have strengthened the squad and upped our game on the training pitch. The girls have responded well and we aim to push on yet further.”

Badshot Lea play their competitive fixtures at The Operatix Community Ground in Westfield Lane, Wrecclesham, on Sundays, usually at 2pm.
