ALRESFORD Golf Club held their men’s and ladies’ club championships and associated handicap competitions over two hot days, with the course producing fast-running fairways, quick greens and difficult rough.

The new men’s champion is Rob Kirk who beat defending champion Will Briggs in a sudden-death play-off on the 18th. Both had gross scores of 151 for the 36 holes, with Grant Thorne just one shot behind in third place.

Ladies’ champion for the fifth year running was Kelly Travers with a gross 154 for 36 holes. Again, it was a very tight finish, with Lynne Cowser just one shot back on 155. It all came down to the final putts on the last hole.

The winner of the men’s handicap competition for the John Holmes Trophy was Oliver Stuart with a net 129 (9 under par), giving him a handicap reduction of 3.7.

The ladies’ handicap competitions were for the Brenda Hedges Trophy (Silver Div) and Dorothy Coombs (Bronze Div). Lynne Cowser was the Silver winner with a net 139 (3 under par) and Jan Harring took the Bronze with a net 148 (6 over par).
