ALDERSHOT, Farnham & District athlete Steph Twell won the women’s race at the Vitality London 10,000 on Monday.

She was in illustrious company, with Mo Farah winning the men’s event in the capital, cheered home by an enthusiastic bank holiday crowd.

It was a great day for the AFD club, with Farnham’s own Richard Allen finishing men’s runner-up, just four seconds behind Sir Mo who recorded 29mins 44secs.

Twell was a clear winner in the women’s race, clocking 32-34 to finish ahead of Gemma Steel and Jo Pavey in a strong field.

Richard Allen, a duathlon competitor, is also a member of Farnham Swimming Club.

He became a world champion last year by winning the World U23 Duathlon Championships in Canada. He had qualified for the world event with victory in the European Championships.

Allen showed his mettle in this gruelling event which comprises a 10km run, 40km cycle ride and finally a 5km run.
