A small but poignant service took place in Petersfield town centre last week to mark the 81st anniversary of VE Day.

Veterans, Royal British Legion members and dignitaries gathered around War Memorial last Friday morning to mark the milestone.

Petersfield mayor and RBL branch chairman, Cllr Chris Paige, branch secretary Lt Col Stratton-Brown and Churcher’s College CCF members were among those present for the service led by Rev Will Hughes.

The council holds the VE Day service annually as part of its Armed Forces Covenant which ensures fair treatment for service personnel, veterans and their families.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed the popular East Hampshire Veterans Festival will return to Petersfield Festival Hall on Saturday, September 19.
